Numerous countries, including both those with established nuclear industries and newcomers embarking on nuclear initiatives, face demographic challenges characterized by aging workforces and a shortage of mid-career professionals to mentor new entrants. Recognizing the importance of understanding the needs of the young generation in these diverse contexts and identifying ways in which both the International Youth Nuclear Congress (IYNC) and Young Generation Networks (YGNs) can support their growth, IYNC initiated the World Young Generation in Nuclear Thermometer Project.
This global IYNC-led survey serves as a comprehensive tool, delving into the ambitions, concerns, and observations of young professionals at both the international and state levels. To shape a robust institutional strategy for the next decade, IYNC aims to comprehend the current global mindset of both young nuclear professionals and students. The surveys provide extensive, clear, and useful information on the thoughts and feelings of the current young nuclear generation.
Covering crucial aspects such as career fears, perceived pitfalls, desired changes, and envisioned improvements for themselves and the industry, these surveys empower IYNC to understand how our organization and related entities can best serve these demographics as they grow within the industry.
Preliminary finds were shared at IYNC2022 and 2023 World Nuclear Exhibition and are now accessible in an interactive format here. The final report is currently under development and will be released during IYNC2024. As this project aspires to be an industry reference, showcasing the evolution of indicators over the years, IYNC plans to periodically develop and publish results, to provide a solid analysis that remains both relevant and informative.
The success of this project hinges on its data
